Objectives: Create a striking website design that emphasizes the art and artists behind Grey Matter Studios, an artistic community in Orlando that produces short and feature length films.

Grey Matter Studios was about to release their latest work, a half hour short film that would be going out to festivals later in the year, and they wanted to unify their online presence and give their fans a place where they could always find their latest work.

How we did it: Grey Matter already had their logo: a creative design where their brand name was written in a constellation of stars. We decided to expand on this design and give it motion. We created a dynamic background of moving stars that float across the screen forming and dropping lines with each other that you have to see to appreciate.

From there we emphasized each of the films that they’ve worked on by highlighting their poster, providing a teaser description, and recognizing all of the people who worked to bring the project together. Every film also has its own page where you can see behind the scenes photos and check out blooper reels with a beautiful heading where each films trailer plays in the background. Users will also be greeted by a fly out notification letting them know about the upcoming release of their latest project.

Every part of the design pulls from the transparent and thin borders in the logo and helps create a clean and professional image that doesn’t distract from the core pieces of art that the site is meant to show off. We also made sure to use all of the best practices for hosting and embedding such high resolution pictures and videos to ensure excellent load times and a terrific mobile experience.
